A lot of people arrive at a 12-step meeting expecting to be preached at, and some leave again over the word God. It is worth knowing that groups run by and for agnostics, atheists and freethinkers have existed for decades, and that several fellowships never used religious language at all.
This page is a list, not a recommendation. Plenty of non-believers go to ordinary meetings and never mention it. Some prefer a room where the question does not come up.
There are 99 online meetings that name themselves agnostic, atheist, freethinker or secular. Some are hosted outside the UK, which makes no practical difference on a video call and means there is usually one running whatever the hour.
SMART Recovery uses cognitive behavioural tools. LifeRing and Women for Sobriety are secular by design. Recovery Dharma draws on Buddhist practice, which some people read as spiritual and others do not. All are free.
