About the fellowship
Search AA, NA and other UK recovery meetings by postcode, town, or fellowship, in person or online. No sign-up. No tracking of who you are. Just the door, the time, and how to get there.
Workaholics Anonymous, or WA, is a free, anonymous twelve-step fellowship for people who cannot stop working, over-committing, or keeping busy. It treats compulsive doing the way AA treats drinking: as something members help each other put down, one day at a time.
There are no fees or dues. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop working compulsively.
WA is for anyone whose relationship with work or busyness is costing them their health, their relationships, or their peace. That includes people who cannot rest without guilt, who fill every gap in the day, who volunteer for everything, or who feel panic when there is nothing to do. It is not about how many hours you work; plenty of members burned out on unpaid caring, studying or perfectionism rather than a paid job. You do not have to be sure you belong to come and listen.
Meetings usually last about an hour, with readings from WA literature and sharing from personal experience. Nobody is made to speak. Most meetings are online or by phone, which means you can join from anywhere in the UK at times through the day and evening; there are also a small number of in-person UK groups.
WA has been around since 1983, and its tools are practical: bottom lines around work hours, top lines around rest and play, action plans, and phone calls with other members. Members often say the hardest step was accepting that rest is not a reward for finishing, because the work is never finished.
