Start with your local drug and alcohol service. It is free, and in England you can contact it yourself without a GP. You are given a named keyworker and regular one-to-one appointments, which is national guidance rather than a local perk. Last year in England, 99% of people starting treatment did so within three weeks of referral. Then add free meetings, which need no referral at all and are running tonight.
It is easy to come away from those phone calls believing that recovery is a thing you buy, and that you have been priced out of it. That is not how it works. Residential rehab is an intensive option that suits some people and some situations, and plenty of people recover having never set foot in one.
The rooms are full of people who got well through free meetings, a local service and time.
Your local drug and alcohol service costs nothing, wherever you are in the UK. It is funded by your council or health board, so there is nothing to pay and no insurance involved. Ask about council funding for residential rehab while you are there, because that service is the only route to it.
Recovery meetings are free everywhere and always. There is no membership, no fee, no referral and no waiting list. Some groups pass a basket toward the room hire and putting nothing in is completely normal.
