Debtors Anonymous, or DA, is a free, anonymous fellowship of people who help each other stop incurring unsecured debt and build a healthier relationship with money. Members follow a twelve-step programme and use a set of practical tools, with meetings in the UK in person and online.
There are no fees and no referrals. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop incurring unsecured debt.
DA is for anyone who finds themselves repeatedly in debt they cannot manage, spending compulsively, or living with money in a way that causes them harm. It is not about how much you owe, and you do not need to be in crisis to come. People who chronically under-earn, or who avoid looking at their finances at all, often find a home here too.
Alongside the twelve steps, DA uses practical tools: keeping simple records of what comes in and goes out, making a spending plan rather than a punishing budget, and pressure relief meetings where two experienced members help you look at your situation calmly. It is supportive and practical, not a place of shame.

Debtors Anonymous grew out of Alcoholics Anonymous in 1968, when members realised the same approach could help with compulsive debting. It adapted the twelve steps to money and now meets across the UK in person and online.
