What is Families Anonymous?

Families Anonymous, or FA, is a free, anonymous fellowship for the families and friends of people affected by drugs or related behavioural problems. It is for you, not the person using, and any concerned relative or friend is welcome.

How is FA different from Al-Anon?

They are very similar in approach. Al-Anon focuses on families affected by drinking, while Families Anonymous focuses on families affected by drugs and related behaviour. Some people attend both.

Do I have to be sure there is a drug problem?

Accepted Answer

No. FA welcomes any concerned relative or friend, even where there is only a suspicion of a problem. You come for your own wellbeing, whatever the person using decides to do.

Does my family member have to be in treatment?

Accepted Answer

No. FA is for you regardless of where your loved one is, whether they are using, in recovery, or refusing help. It is about your own peace of mind.

Is FA free and anonymous?

Yes. There are no fees and no referrals. What is said in the room stays in the room, and only first names are used.
