Online meetings

Join a recovery meeting from home.

Search AA, NA and other UK recovery meetings by postcode, town, or fellowship, in person or online. No sign-up. No tracking of who you are. Just the door, the time, and how to get there.

You can be in a recovery meeting twenty minutes from now without leaving your home. All you need is a phone, tablet or computer and the meeting link from the listing.

For a lot of people, home is where it starts. It is private, it is low-pressure, and the kettle is right there.

What it is actually like

Online meetings mostly run on Zoom. You click the link a few minutes before the start, and you arrive in a room of ordinary people. There is usually a reading, someone shares their story, and others speak if they want to. You do not have to say anything at all. Cameras are welcome but not required, and plenty of people listen with theirs off the first time.

If you want to stay completely private, change your display name to a first name or initials before you join. Nobody minds.

Setting yourself up

Headphones help if you are not alone in the house. If you cannot speak freely, the chat box is there, and simply listening is a fine way to spend your first meeting. If the technology fails, nothing is lost: there is always another meeting, usually the same day.

Questions people ask

What do I need to join an online meeting?

A phone, tablet or computer and the joining link from the meeting listing. Most meetings use Zoom, which works in the browser or the free app. No account is needed on 12stepfinder.

Can people see me or my house?

Only if you turn your camera on, and you do not have to. Many people join with the camera off and a first name or initials as their display name.

What if someone walks in or I have to leave suddenly?

You can leave an online meeting at any moment with one tap, and nobody will chase you for an explanation. People understand: it is your home and your call.

I cannot speak freely at home. Can I still take part?

Yes. Use headphones and the chat box, or simply listen. Being there quietly still counts, and many people do exactly that for their first few meetings.
