Gam-Anon is a free, anonymous fellowship for the husbands, wives, partners, relatives, and friends of compulsive gamblers. It is for you, not the person gambling, and it offers understanding and practical help from people who have been through the same thing.
There are no fees and no referrals. Anyone affected by someone else's gambling is welcome.
Gam-Anon is for anyone affected by another person's gambling: partners, parents, adult children, brothers and sisters, and friends. Gambling can bring secrecy, debt, and broken trust, and Gam-Anon is a place to talk about that honestly with people who understand. You come for yourself, whatever the gambler decides to do.
Gam-Anon is the companion fellowship to Gamblers Anonymous, much as Al-Anon supports those affected by drinking. The two often meet on the same evening in separate rooms. Members help each other find acceptance, set boundaries, and rebuild their own lives. What is said in the room stays in the room.
Gam-Anon was founded in 1960 in the United States, modelled on Al-Anon, as it became clear that the families of compulsive gamblers needed their own support. It now meets across the UK and Ireland, often alongside Gamblers Anonymous, in person and online.
