Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families is a free, peer-led fellowship for adults who grew up around alcoholism or other family dysfunction. Many members find it speaks to patterns they have carried since childhood. Meetings run across the UK, are open to anyone who identifies, and need no fee or referral.
A meeting lasts about an hour. A member chairs it, reads a short opening, and people share from their own experience. There is no pressure to speak, and many people listen for their first few meetings. What is said in the room stays in the room.
ACoA meets across the UK in person, online over Zoom, and as hybrids. Groups differ, so trying more than one is a good way to find the right fit.
