Al-Anon Family Groups offer support to anyone whose life has been affected by someone else's drinking, whether that person is still drinking or in recovery. It is free, anonymous, and run by members who understand from experience. You do not need a referral, and you do not need the drinker to be doing anything differently.
A meeting lasts about an hour. A member chairs it, reads a short opening, and people share about the impact of a loved one's drinking on their own lives. You are welcome to listen without speaking. What is shared in the room stays in the room.
Al-Anon meets across the UK in person, online over Zoom, and as hybrids. Groups have their own feel, so it can take a couple of meetings to find one where you feel comfortable.

Yes. All Al-Anon Family Groups (AlAnon) meetings are free to attend. There are no membership fees, no waiting lists, and no referrals required. Some groups pass a basket for voluntary contributions toward room hire costs, but this is entirely optional.
No. You can come and listen without saying anything. Nobody will call on you, and most people find it easier to sit quietly and take things in at first. If you want to say your name you can, but there is no expectation.
The programme references a higher power, which each member defines for themselves. Many members are not religious, and atheists and agnostics are common in the rooms. The spiritual aspect is about seeking help outside of yourself, not about any particular religion.
