What is NA?

NA, or Narcotics Anonymous, is a free, anonymous fellowship of people who help each other stop using drugs and stay clean, using the Twelve Steps. It is open to anyone with a drug problem, whatever the drug. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using.

Is NA only for certain drugs?

No. NA makes no distinction between drugs, and members have used all kinds, including alcohol. You are welcome whatever your drug of choice, and you do not need to name it to take part.

Do I have to have stopped using to come?

Accepted Answer

No. You do not have to be clean before your first meeting, and you do not have to be sure you are an addict. Many people come while still using and keep coming back. You are welcome to simply listen.

Is NA religious?

Accepted Answer

No. NA is spiritual, not religious, and not tied to any faith. It uses the idea of a higher power of your own understanding, which can be anything you choose, and people of all faiths and none take part.

Is NA free and anonymous?

Accepted Answer

Yes. There are no fees and no referrals. A basket may be passed for room costs, but you are never expected to give. What is said in the room stays in the room, and a first name is all anyone uses.
