About Recovering Couples Anonymous

Recovering Couples Anonymous holds free, anonymous meetings for couples. Partners attend together and work the programme as a couple, rebuilding trust and communication damaged by addiction of any kind, whichever partner carried it.

Most RCA meetings run online across time zones, so UK couples can usually find an evening slot. Meetings follow a chaired twelve-step format, couples share as couples, and nobody is made to speak.

RCA is not couples therapy and it does not replace anyone's individual programme. The only requirement for membership is a desire to remain committed to each other and to develop new intimacy.

Common questions

Are RCA meetings free?

Yes. All Recovering Couples Anonymous (RCA) meetings are free to attend. There are no membership fees, no waiting lists, and no referrals required. Some groups pass a basket for voluntary contributions toward room hire costs, but this is entirely optional.

Do I have to speak at my first meeting?

No. You can come and listen without saying anything. Nobody will call on you, and most people find it easier to sit quietly and take things in at first. If you want to say your name you can, but there is no expectation.

Is RCA religious?

The programme references a higher power, which each member defines for themselves. Many members are not religious, and atheists and agnostics are common in the rooms. The spiritual aspect is about seeking help outside of yourself, not about any particular religion.

What happens at RCA meetings?

Someone chairs the meeting, reads a short opening, and members share from their own experience. You will not be called on or expected to take part. Meetings usually last about an hour.
