What is SLAA?

SLAA, or Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous, is a free, anonymous twelve-step fellowship for people recovering from compulsive patterns around sex, love and relationships, including the avoidance side known as anorexia. The only requirement is a desire to be free from sex and love addiction.

Is SLAA for me?

There is no test you have to pass and no one labels you. SLAA publishes a gentle self-assessment, the 40 Questions for Self-Diagnosis, along with its Characteristics of Sex and Love Addiction, for your own reflection. You are welcome to attend a meeting and simply listen.

What is the difference between SLAA, SA and SAA?

They are separate fellowships. SLAA covers compulsive patterns around sex, romance and relationships, including anorexia. SA (Sexaholics Anonymous) and SAA (Sex Addicts Anonymous) are distinct fellowships with their own definitions and meetings. 12stepfinder lists SLAA; for the others, see each fellowship's own website.

Is SLAA free and anonymous?

Yes. There are no fees and no referral. Meetings may pass a basket only for room costs, and what is said in the room stays in the room. You are never required to speak.

Why is SLAA called the Augustine Fellowship?

Accepted Answer

Because early members recognised their own experience in the writings of Augustine of Hippo, whose Confessions described the same struggles centuries earlier. It is another name for the same fellowship.
